Parenting Therapy

For parents navigating relationships and life transitions with their children

Life has changed in a big way for your child.

Maybe divorce, the blending of two families, or a new baby has changed the family dynamic and they are struggling to adjust. Perhaps you’re noticing behavioral challenges at school or home that feel difficult to manage on your own. Or maybe your teen is preparing for the next phase of life and could use some support in the transition.

You could use some support, and so could they.

Children and teens experience change differently than adults do. In order to support them in these seasons, it’s important to meet them where they are developmentally and emotionally.

Therapy provides an age-appropriate, supportive space where your child can express themselves in the way that’s right for them and where you, as the parent, can gain the skills & insight you need to help them thrive.

How does child & teen therapy work?

In child & teen therapy, I serve as a bridge between you and your child. My training in child-centered play therapy, sandtray therapy, and other modalities allows me to understand your child’s interactions or expressive play as a reflection of their feelings, thoughts, and challenges. I can then help articulate these things to you in order to foster a deeper understanding of your child.

Just as I’m here to support your child with coping strategies and a space to express themselves, I’m also here to help you. You’ll be included in your child’s therapy through coaching phone calls, psychoeducation, and strategies including Parent-Child Interaction Therapy and Filial Therapy skill-building.

We’ll work together as a team—you, your child, and me—to equip you both with the skills and insight that leads to deeper connection, healing, and growth.

Together, we can help your child thrive.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • I view parents as a crucial part of the therapy process. You’ll be regularly informed of the things we work on and occasionally incorporated into sessions to enhance your own skill-building in interacting with your child. We will discuss the details of your participation as we begin working together.

  • Play therapy is to children what counseling is to adults. Play is the child's natural means of self-expression, just as talking is the adult's natural way of communicating. In the therapeutic playroom, puppets, miniatures, toys, and art supplies are used like words and play is the child's language. This is a powerful technique for clients of all ages, but is especially useful for children who may not be able to express or articulate their feelings or problems out loud. The insights I gain through observing and interacting with your child can help us better understand what’s going on and direct how best to support them.

  • It’s important that both you and your child feel comfortable with your therapist. Click this link to schedule a free consultation with me. I’ll answer your questions, share more about how I can help your child, and you can decide if we’re a good fit. If so, we’ll proceed with scheduling an intake appointment where you and I will meet. Following the intake, I’ll begin working 1:1 with your child.
